Car Leather Care

Seeing is believing - The full story

Leather is skin, dead skin. Like your own it gets dirty and dries out in the sun and heat. Mechanics suffer from ingrained dirt, which dries and cracks their fingers; this also happens to leather. Dirt must not be allowed to become ingrained and "cut" into the creases.

Soap and water MUST NOT be used to clean leather as it will shrink and harden it. Greasy, waxy oils, pastes and balsams will attract dust and dirt which adheres to the finish and is then driven into the leather by your bottom!

Photo 1 above is a genuine Jaguar MK2 seat half of which has only been cleaned and conditioned - it has NOT been recoloured. The cleaning has been done with Gliptone Liquid Leather Cleaner GT12: the cleaner was applied neat from the bottle and GENTLY STIRRED into the leather with a soft nailbrush. YOU MUST NOT SCRUB. After stirring into the leather, leave for a few minutes then stir again, finally wiping off the dirt with a damp cloth; repeat if necessary. Then apply two coats of Liquid Leather Conditioner GT11; this will soak in immediately, no polishing off is required if you apply sparingly, and a couple of hours later you can use the leather.

Re-treat with GT11 Conditioner every 3 months or more depending on your climate, always wiping off any dust and dirt from your leather before applying the Conditioner.

If you have leather subject to rain and dirt, for example clothing, veteran cars, convertibles, motorcycle leathers and saddles etc, use Liquid Leather Conditioner GT13 with water and dirt repellant.

ALL LIQUID LEATHER CONDITIONERS SMELL OF TOP QUALITY ENGLISH LEATHER WHICH WILL IMPREGNATE YOUR LEATHER WITH THIS LUXURIOUS AROMA. YOU CAN FURTHER ENHANCE THE SMELL BY ADDING A LIQUID LEATHER AIR FRESHENER.

Photo 1 above shows that before treatment the leather is cracking - this is because of the ingrained dirt; after treatment the dirt is removed and the crack can close up. Photos 2 and 3 are close-ups from Photo 1.

Use Liquid Leather on car seats, furniture, boots, bags, cases, saddles and clothing. Always colour check first: GT12 may need diluting with up to 80% water for clothing, bags, cases and furniture because of the range of qualities. DO NOT DILUTE FOR CARS.

Liquid Leather products are used or sold by: Rolls-Royce, Jaguar, Ferrari (Maranello Concessionaires), Aston Martin, TVR, Bristol Cars, Saab GB, the largest leather furniture manufacturers and retailers including DFS, Furniture Village, hundreds of furniture repair technicians plus most of the "CE" accredited made to measure motorcycle leather clothing manufacturers. Liquid Leather is the only product recommended by the Rolls Royce Enthusiasts Club Interior Care and Renovation Seminars.
