Gliptone’s experience with leather goes back to 1972 when we were re-trimming Classic cars as well as carrying out general trim repairs to modern cars, soon leather re-colouring was a major part of the business, however the products available had many deficiencies, they were very thin or too thick and being solvent based, extremely smelly. We knew we could do better!
LIQUID LEATHER was developed. As far as we know, the first UK water based system for restoring old leather.
World of Leather approached us to develop a range of care products for their various leather suites, this we did, then we supplied major furniture manufacturers like Pendragon in Bridgend, Frayling and Chapel, Contour, Saxon, G Plan then other major retailers came on board, Courts, Furnitureland, Kingsbury Interiors and Land of Leather.
Suites being big and bulky are difficult to store, transport and deliver into peoples homes, minor transit damage is a costly problem, Frayling Furniture asked us to develop a “one touch” colouring product to touch in these light scratches and transit scuffs, they wanted a water based product that was quick and simple to use, requiring no top coat sealant.
SCUFFMASTER was born, the first water based self sealing leather dye in the world!
We now stock thousands of leather colour dyes, all copied from original leather colour samples ranging from the 1920s up to brand new 2009 cars and a colossal range of furniture colours collected over the last 15 years.

In the early 90’s the EEC decided that certain products should be tested to make sure that they are suitable for the market into which they are sold.
Motorcycle leathers are designed to protect a rider in case of an accident, however many looked good but offered little body protection, so the EEC targeted these for testing, many failed and had to be sold as “fashion” leathers, they also tested leather aftercare products for m/cycle leathers, only Gliptone products passed with flying colours, we were tested because most of the made to measure manufactures recommended our products, these included BKS, Crowtree, MJK and Branded leathers, two have since closed down but the remaining still sell Liquid Leather products.
Gliptone Liquid Leather was the only aftercare product proved NOT to reduce the strength of a m/cycle leather suite.

It’s not only UK companies that use Gliptone products, we supply manufacturers in Eastern Europe and Asia with repair materials, our products are also used by airlines, boat manufacturers and equestrian linked businesses. We also export to many other countries all over the world.
Because Gliptone sell products to other countries, we are always looking for innovative products in return. From Germany we import Alu Magic and Chrome Magic, two metal polishes that not only provide an amazing shine but leave an invisible wax protection so that you don’t have to polish continually, saving you time and preventing the removal of plated finishes.
These are ideal for household items, pub fixtures, boat fittings, name plates as well as old cars and bikes.
From America we have a Chewing Gum remover for removing chewing gum from furnishings and carpets.
